A silver anklet from kabyle mountains with two coral cabachons. This is among the pieces i call "my grails", i have been looking for an example since i begun collecting. Only algerian and parisian museums are known to own such a model which is considered to be very early and have been worn before the large cylindrical anklets(later enameled) As in numerous north african open bracelets the side opposite to the opening is narrower and is almowt half the opening side width

  • A very special bracelet this is! The engraving patern is very different from the ones I know of.

    The wide "flared" sides near the opening made me think of the later bracelets of North Africa. I just bought one from probably Libia. I will post it later.

  • on this picture its beauty comes out, wonderful engravings, which could not be seen very well on the other pictures. But I do also like its form.

  • Congratulations you did outbid me on this one.....

  • @Harald

    Right on, i was myself very stunned by the engraving which is not to be found elsewhere, eventually been reasured by the reference book (Bijoux berberes d'Algérie BY CAMPS FABRER) in which similar examples are bearing the same patterns. Yes please do post your find

    @Eva

    Thank you, the engraving are very beautiful but it is the form which startled me the most especially for an aklet

    @Marie-ange

    I am sorry, collecting is not meant to be frustrating but auctions ae made this way, i am sure you will find a much more interesting piece than this. If you were expecting to wear it as a bracelet, it is actually too large (wasn't clear from ebay pictures, a big surprise for me)

  • Aha - it is an anklet, I should have read it carefully. I thought it was a bracelet. It stays beautiful, and stunning.

  • Don't worry Ayis, I have found a gorgeous silver Oman necklace instead!!  But you are right I did not know it was an anklet.

  • So it is a anklet, it looked that way. And is, indeed, the same type as the Camps-Faber one. A very wonderful find!
