Very scarce great kabylia anklet

A silver anklet from kabyle mountains with two coral cabachons. This is among the pieces i call "my grails", i have been looking for an example since i begun collecting. Only algerian and parisian museums are known to own such a model which is considered to be very early and have been worn before the large cylindrical anklets(later enameled) As in numerous north african open bracelets the side opposite to the opening is narrower and is almowt half the opening side width

  • Excellent piece, Ayis!  How much does it weigh?  I agree with the other comments that the designs have a Saharan look to them.

  • Thanx Hillary, it weighs around 110 grams, not hefty but the surface of the flared part gives it an imposing look
