Dear Preethi: Great!!!!
I am not surprised that the Manthura necklace is not for sale. Such a necklace (real old ones) nowadays goes for around USD15,000+++++. But only to see one in real and be able to touch it is very rewarding.
The amulets next to the above necklace are very interesting! However, the bracelet next to it is not from Oman but from Yemen/Hadramaut. The cuffs on the far left are also very rare and very heavy, hence, very expensive.
The anklets in the center are also rather rare. They are looking old to me ... if so, they are valuable!
If you are looking for a Khunjar knive, please be careful. There are so many versions of it and only a few are very valuable.
I see that you have fun and am so happy for you. Enjoy it to the fullest!
With kind regards.
Peter
wonderful!
Dear Preethi: Above is a necklace with such an amulet as you are having displayed on the table. They are very rare! Have fun.... Peter
Thanx for sharing your finds with us. Lovely jewels and i just loooove the amulet necklaces!
did you buy anything ??….best..Angelo
What a fabulous display - have a great time, Preethi, and thanks for letting us participate in your Omani adventure:)!
Happy this is of interest to forum members.
Ciao Angelo. Yes, I did buy a few pieces, but nothing in this shop - the prices were too high for me, the bracelets too small, and I am not looking for large monumental pieces, but rather wearable ones.
Alaa, believe me, I thought of you when I saw that amulet! :)
Peter, once again, can't thank you enough for all your photos, which are a great reference. The necklace below with the amulet is superb! I have seen other amulets - not in a necklace, but sold individually - but they didn't have much wear on them.
I saw 5-6 manthura necklaces in Nizwa alone, one of them in the museum, but none of the others were for sale. And one of the dealers allowed me to wear one for a few minutes :) I was also offered a two-tier manthura for sale in Bahla for 1,200 Omani rials (about 3000 Euro).
Yes, the anklets in the centre were old, without any doubt and fabulous. I'm not looking for khanjar, but the dealer was so proud of this super-sized Saeedi khanjar and wanted to show it off :)
I also love those amulets, did you get close ups?
Can't wait to see what you chose to bring home xx

Excenllent information, Preethi, from my point of view, the amulet necklace is the most interesting since everything else looks so heavy, I think there is a headdress there which, although I dont ever wear them, are interesting to me.Are the prices all over very expensive? Are most of the pieces massive as these pieces seem to be? So glad you are enjoying yourself and hope that you share some of your finds with us when you return home.
Most impressive, Preethi - and so very interesting. I feel very privileged to be able to see all this wonderful jewellery on my computer at a very great distance from Oman. I can't say I am watching "in great comfort", for we are experiencing extreme heat: today will be about 40 degrees Celsius. Even so, this is just marvellous stuff, and I thank you so much for showing it to us. Thank you also to Peter for the photo of the Omani amulet necklace which he posted below. Great to wake up to see all these wonderful pieces! This site continues to be of very great value.
