Beautiful Frankie!
this looks fantastic! it must be from Southern Morocco, Sahara or Mauritania. Wonderful Berber cross and fantastic necklace!!! WOW!
Yes I see some lovely Mauritanian beads too, great necklace Frankie.
I need to learn - which are the Mauretanian beads? Are they the angled silver metal ones?
Eva, please could you tell me what it is about it that makes you think it comes from further south?
Thanks to you all.
The 2 large silver brads are Mauritanian, am not sure about the silver capped beads.
not brads but beads, sorry.....
this Berber cross is typical for Southern Morocco, Sahara or Mauritania. Then also the amber beads (these are typical for the whole region there). It could have been bought in Morocco, or any of the two mentioned places, as many sellers travel around. It is the style of the cross with its knobs and the cornerless cube at the bottom of the picture.
Ah, in that case there is a conflict with what I have previously been told about the large silver beads - that they are likely to be from Essaouira of jewish craftsmanship.
I thinc we shoold all give up worying about corekt spelings. Oui al no wot iz ment!
Oh that is interesting, I purchased similar beads from Rita Okrent's shop as beeing Mauritanian, for sure we need to have expert opinion on these.
ha, ha, ha, varie funnie.......
I had wondered if the cornerless cubes had a southern link. Nice to know about the cross. Thanks Eva. I`ll put titles to my photos and what I think I know about them.
