  • I`m hoping that this can be included under the umbrella description of house adornment.

  • Very beautiful Frankie. I have visited Sumatra back in 1983 - it was definitely one of my best travel experience. If I would have had the money (I am not rich but definitely have more to spend nowadays than when I was 20 years old), I would have come home loaded - well, I did that anyway already 32 years ago - but different.... I bought some nice silks (some up to 250 years old!) and some smaller silver items...

I will post one of my items, which I bought in Sulawesi 19 years ago... Indonesia had great antiques. The best antiques I have seen in Sumatra and Sulawesi and in Malaysian Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak)...

Congratulations on this betel stand Frankie! Peter

  • What a lovely finding on our Fab day out...perfect ending!!  S x

  • I`d love to see your Sulawesi item, Peter. And the silks sound fascinating.

I`ve had this stand without taking much account of it for years. I had thought I would never discover its` purpose. It took a visit to Michael Backman`s inner sanctum with Sarah at the weekend for me to identify it. I keep sewing bits and bobs in it and bought it in a local charity shop for a few pounds!

i have a sister who lived in Sarawak for many years. I do wish I`d taken more account of what would have been available around her at the time!

  • Sarah love, our comments crossed. It was the best fun day out I`ve had in an ocean of time. Thanks so much for the instigation. xx
