Labbeh - Saudi Arabia

This is a rare, heavy high silver labbeh from Saudi Arabia. A special piece and I just love the closing feature.

  • Really nice! Is there a way to distinguish a Yemeni lebbeh from Saudi pieces? Are they pretty much the same form, or are there minor differences?
  • Dear Edith; Many thanks for your message. Saudi Arabia and Yemen have many jewelry designs in common, which is due to their long border with each other and of course the fact that Nomads/Bedouins are moving around without considering borders. However, with few exceptions, there were not many Jews silversmithing in Saudi Arabia and therefore, the Saudi jewelry is a bit crude with much less filigree than the Yemeni versions. Also, much of the Saudi jewelry is of a lower silver quality. A high silver Saudi labbeh is therefore, a rarity. With kind regards. Peter
