The pendant is ivory, they are nice and old.
Hi M.A. I bought 3 old ekipas pendants whilst in Namibia - and didn't want to be buying ivory or bringing them back into Aus, so looked into it quite thoroughly and compared them to ivory. These are bone, probably hippo. The woman who sold them to me has a box full of ivory ekipas and can't sell them, which is not surprising. Years ago I was told they did use old bone from hippo and other animals. This one looks like a tooth, but its not.
Hi Ann, I am happy this one is not made of ivory! Bone is fine and they also look great as pendants!! Hippo tooth is also ivory.
Yes that's correct M.A. Have a wonderful holiday!
nice combination.
I have never the back side of ekipas before, so how didyou manage to string it.
Did you make a hole or attached a metal bail?
Maybe I am wrong but I think these are like buttons and have a hole on the back for stringing, Ann has to show us.
Hi Alaa and M.A., I attached a silver bail - and yes button holes at the back. As they are heavy it is not easy to make them sit correctly.
