thanx Marie-Ange
Most interesting head ornament! I've never seen such a head decoration before. Are they still worn (on festivals or traditional events)?
Yes Betty, they are still wear them when getting dressed into their regional customs such as club events and national days and fairs. These head ornaments do exist also in silver or gold, depended how rich you were.
Now they are also collectors items, of course. They do have different shapes depending also from which area . And always they are covered with a lace cap those are also regional bound.
Thanx Ingrid for the insights...... i find it very "prostestant" to cover most of the headdress by a lace especially when it made of silver and gold.....
Alaa you are right the northern Dutch are a lot more sober, puritines than our southern dutch, they are mostly catholics and not afraid to wear a good piece of jewellery. Luckily this is changing now because of so many different nationalities and therefore influences. Gr. Ingrid.
was clamped. Hence the name ' oorijzer' ( eariron). Early in 17th C. it grew into a genteel ornament........and the cap remaind. Probably because the gold and the silver glittered in the sun one wore a white lace cap over it?
info I didn.t know Akkie, thank you. Gr. Ingrid
