  • This piece is from Yemen, it may be made of silver or metal since Yemeni craftsmen use both. It is popularly known as a wedding necklace and it is iconic in its shape and styling. I cannot see the plaquets very clearly so I cannot tell if there is heavy decoration on them which would indicate a Bawsani style, I do not, however, believe it to be antique, but vintage. Sometimes of the plaques of these necklaces are signed and sometimes the tubes as well.

  • The necklace shown in the ebay pic is definitely antique ( imo) and definitely of Jewish origin . The silverwork appears to be extremely elaborate . Silverwork done by Muslim smiths in Yemen is characteristically less decorative and elaborate than that done by the Jewish smiths. As I say, I cannot see the decorations on this necklace well so I cannot form an opinion as to origin.

  • Patricia and Marie-Ange, thank you so much for your gracious assistance!  I will take some close-ups of it - it is magnificent in person with lots of detailed work. I don't see any signed tubes or plaques.

  • Here is another one made of metal on Ebay 270987475312
