Ancient recycled man`s bag (Morocco).

The basis of this was possibly a traditional long fringed man`s bag (choukara). Parts of old jewellery that are considered a little too good for the melting pot are decoratively applied to allow for reuse and occasioning the chance to view many of the techniques generally used in the making of Maroccan jewellery - casting, chiselling, filigree work, enamelling, nielloing, engraving, bead creating and "jewel" insertion.

  • Love it! A little masterpiece...and unique! a great find.

  • Oh Chantal, I can`t even claim to have found it. It was given to me by a dear kind man who noticed that I was the only member of the group who didn`t actually buy any of his stock. And maybe noticed that it was the one item I had taken photos of. Sarah delivered it to me later in the day. One of many generous tear-provoking gestures on the trip.

  • Nice things happen to nice people xx

  • How interesting unuall piece Frankie is that one of your buys in Morocco??

  • What a beautiful story, such a kind man you must have made quite an impression on him.....is it the guy you are with on the picture??

  • M-A, no it`s not the guy in the picture. That one was so decorative (and kind, Sarah informed me) I just wanted to hang him on a silver chain and bring him home with me. But I`m not sure I`d be able to keep him in eyeshadow - outer ring round the eyes a bright silvery blue, the inner heavily outlined in irridescent lead. Yes, real lead!!

  • loving the profile picture!!
