Apologies for the fuzzy image.Quite large with good silver, carnelian and maybe red, black and blue glass beads. Quite likely made from components of other items.I know I should know the origin of this but can`t drag it up from the murky depths of my brain!

  • Hi Frankie!  I almost got this.  I think that it is Middle Eastern, probably Syrian.  A nice talismanic necklace with tons of items to ward off the evil eye and what looks like some ancient carnelian pieces too.  The blue with the holes are faience pieces.  I believe that the front says "masha' Allah" - a protective saying, and the back has squares with the name Mohammed written in them.  Love it!

  • Hi Hillary! Fantastic! I thought I could read Allah on the front and wondered if the blue was faience, too. I know I have seen those little beads before but can`t think where.

I forgot to show the back of the pendant but it definitely has squares with a repeated arabic word in. I`m excited - possibly my first Syrian necklace.

I got it via Texas where it may have been brought to by the many oil men around. My seller found it in a charity shop!

It`s nicely heavy and chunky - I love it too.

Good to think I`ll be so safe. Thanks so much!

  • The blue amulets are from Syria. They call them "Lochscheibe" to ward of the evil eye

  • Thanks, Harald. I`ve found Lochscheibe in my copy of Bedouin Silver now, thanks to you and Toya - knew I`d seen them.

Hillary, my extra background was "de trop"for you. I realise what you meant now by "I almost got this". I thought previously that you were talking about its`origin. Guess we both have good taste then!

  • Very nice necklace! Enjoy wearing it! It's good to have extra protection, especially such a beautiful one.
  • Thanks, Howah. I`ll try to include my seller`s much better photo - it deserves it2506000672?profile=originalI`m always surprised when it works!

  • Gorgeous necklace Frankie, great buy!!

  • Frankie, how do you do it?  This necklace is very nice and it will keep you safe to boot.

  • How I do it, Ann....... I spend FAR more time scouring the internet than is healthy for anyone!!!

    Thanks for the kind words.

  • Very stupidly I have already lost the middle lochscheibe little pendant that hangs from the main pendant. If anyone knows of anything that would be good as a replacement, I`d be very grateful to hear of it. Most of the necklace is of good silver but some is alpaca of some kind so that would do.

I have already found a lochscheibe but it is much too big.
