Tuareg Veil Weights - ASSROU N' SWOUL - Niger

Geometric layers of bronze, brass and copper. Cm. 8,8 (3.46”) high x cm. 5,8 (2.28”) width; gr. 71,8 (2.53 oz.).A genuine and old Tuareg veil weight known as " assrou n' swoul ", generally translated as " the key which is thrown over the shoulder ". This elaborate key-like pendant is often worn by wealthier women as a counterweight to keep their head-cloths or robes from being blown away by the Sahara's winds.The form of this assrou n' swoul is very rare and represents a stylized symbol of Tanit, the goddess of fertility.
