  • Does anyone know from where this originates?

  • Hello, These are currently mass-produced in Pakistan/ Afghanistan for the Western market, though I'm sure it is based on some traditional tribal design.

  • But they have a very old patina. Does not appear to have been a recent fabrication.

  • I can see the patina and the solder marks, but I believe that this is a new piece.  Perhaps some of the other members will be able to assist us :-)  I have also found that in Afghanistan, they are very good at making things appear old.

  • I have to agree with Hillary, the construction techniques look modern. The patterned strips to my eye are applied machine rolled strips, rather than hand chased onto the piece.
It is a bold and appealing style, but I feel it is likely to have little age.
  • If we also consider the edges and interior of the piece, there seems to be no evidence of wear.
Which is also a good indicator.
  • question -- are these cuffs traditionally made of silver or is brass an equally viable alternative -- I mean the older cuffs? Thanks.

  • Very informative. Thank you all for answering my question.
