Absolutely gorgeous earrings, all of them. My favorite are the "Tiboukaria" which I have also never seen before. Congratulations on wonderful finds.
Wonderful pieces, Alaa! The niello work on the temporals seems incredibly fine. Congrats!
Thanx Betty and Lynn. I shall post old picture of these being worn
Very interesting earrings Alaa, never seen those snake types before, would love to see your promised picture of how they were worn. The large dangling ones with the niello work what luck to have them as a set in tact. Thank you for showing, looking forward to the picture. Gr. Ingrid
Dear Alaa; Very nice collection indeed. I love the Tiboukaria and Duwwah earrings - they are gorgeous and for me quite unusual. With kind regards. Peter
How fascinating to see them earrings worn, Sarah, Thank you for placing this photo, but now my question is, Are the rather thick points going through the ear lobes? If so, than most probably the lobes were trained to enlarge the holes from childhood onwards? Or are it just the very end points and than to be secured with another pin from the back sides of the lobes? Thank you Sarah, Gr. Ingrid.
My understanding is that they are suspended from a string or headdress. This is often the way with Moroccan temporal decorations.
Sarah, that is what I was looking for, as you once before showed us a picture or at least told us that some earrings were hooked into a scrave,(especially with some jewish jewelry, you could see the hooks, but here I cannot see any place such hooks are connecting to the earrings. Still curious. Perhaps a string attached to the earrings and than wrapped around the earshell? Just guessing.
Most of the strings went over the head rather than over just the ear.
I had a set of these, which I sold, there was evidence of wear at the place where a string would have attached.
