    @Harald - No, I didn't know but it makes sense as the chain is quite long. Actually I have another one (I will make a better picture and have it re-posted) whihc definitely was used that way as the chain is extremely long.

  • this necklace was most likely made by Yemeni  Jewish silversmiths who lived on the top of a mountain in the remote settlement of Ruqab, Bur'a Yemen.  The residents of Bur'a and nearby Rayma wore tayyars like this over one shoulder and resting on a hip, like a bandelier.
