Silver necklace, with semi-precious spherical stones (turquoise?) and old coins. From Turkey, ca. mid-20th century. The larger central medallion (diameter 29 mm) is a very worn mid-17th century silver coin from Poland-Lithuania (a major Central European state at the time); the presented side is the reverse - the obverse side (with the representation of the ruler's head) has obviously (I think: intentionally) always been turned towards the wearer's chest and is now almost totally worn blank. The small late-Ottoman silver coins date from H. 1293-1327 (1876-1909 AD). Purchased in Bursa in 1997. According to the seller, the jewel came from Türkmen immigrants from Batumi (Georgia), settled in Elmalı, near Iznik. (Inv.n° müç055 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
