    I knew of the existence of fibulas in mauritania but this is the first time i hav a clear evidence of one being worn!!

  • I captured all of thse pictures off the internet and most were either old photos or old post cards.

    Glad to hear this one is helpful. I think these first hand historical references  are sometimes very important.

    I saw this picture some time ago, at first I thought it did indeed show a fibula, however after closer viewing I believe that the picture is showing a strand of Agate rather than a chain for a fibula.

    Possibly agates from Djenne.  Mali.

  • well you may be right Sarah, but the fact is that the fabric is not sewn and is pinned, otherwise the agate strand or whatever other stone it may be made of, would hang around the neck.

     

    I should upload a picture of the "supposed" fibula used here.
