Lovely, from where, Algeria , Morocco?
nice piece. maroccan
This is new Tiznit work and it looks as though it is based on the Ait Ouarzguit style of fibula chains.
It is interesting that you say Ait Ouarzguit -- it looks very Tiznit to me, but I think you know better than me what it is.
Yes Patti, this is most certainly Tiznit workmanship, but the style of beads and chain linking together is a typical style of the Ait Ouarzguit fibula chains.
Lanajnaj, Did you purchase this quite recently, as in the past year or less?
Very beautiful!
Definetely new tiznit but copyong the old ait ouaouzguit style !!!
BTW this is has to be the neatest new copy of a worm holes fibula i have ever seen!!
Very nice contemporary stuff
Ok, I have a question about this piece. I can see the Tiznit characteristics of it clearly but I don't see any Ait Ouarzguit characteristics. I have seen a couple of the older fib sets and they don't look anything like this. I am going to include here a set that I purchased some time ago . Perhaps you could tell me how this one and that one are related. Also, I had no idea that the Ait Ouarzguit smiths used worm hold technique -- was this technique used across the board for all regions? Thanks.
Actually Patti, you have noticed well and this is a way to spot copies. Here the technical work is almost perfect but the overall shape is that of a jewel from the ait ouaouzguit ( shape of the fibula and the chain) BUT everything else comes from further west especially the enamel colors, the use of coral cabochons and you can find plethora of new pendants completely similar to the chain central pendant in the shops of tiznit!
Your fibula set is the regular ait ouaozguit stuff with the normal additions of pieces from nearby countries but that is not odd!!
The door shaped pendants forexample are heavily used in the draa valley as hair and braids decorations but very close tot he ait ouaozguit and possibly recycled as fibula pendants
The dearest and rarest worm hole fibulas do actually come from the ait ouaouzguit and tribes around , the use of this technique emcompassed the whole anti atlas but pieces from the west are somewhat very simple, only a simple triangle and the further to the east you would go, the shape gets more complex (a main triangle with lateral smaller ones or hald circle to even 3D appendices..) and bear enamel colors such as yellow, pale blue...and garnet cabs
