Omani Halka Hair Ornament

Silver hair ornament with a red glass stone. This is huge, I was surprised to read that these were worn by young girls to hold their braids. The bells are beautifully worn and as smooth as silk. I am very impressed by the Omani silver work, every link on the chains is beautifully soldered and there is not a rough spot anywhere. The beginning of another obsession I suppose. :)Dimensions:Circle is 76mmWith the dangles, it is 9cm wide and 13cm long115 grams

  • Wow, I love this!  Congrats, Lynn!

  • Lovely piece Lynn. Do you think there were two to start with? Gr.Ingrid.

  • Thank you Betty and Ingrid.  I don't know enough about Omani jewelry, but perhaps one of our experts can answer, or I have a book coming soon.

  • This is gorgeous. I don't own any Omani jewelry but this beauty is causing me to think I might need to acquire some.

  • Dear Betty; Yes, a very nice Omani piece and this type is becoming rare. A very nice find indeed. Congratulations. Peter

  • Sorry, I meant of course, Lynn. My apologies and all the best for 2015 with many more such great finds! With kind regards. Peter

  • It's my pleasure to be mistaken for the lovely Betty.  Thank you Peter and the same to you!

Toya, you should try an Omani jewel.  I have four quite modest ones now, nothing like the museum pieces that Peter and others have, and the silver-work is just wonderful.
