I sent the picture to a Bulgarian friend of mine, who is specialist on Muslim ethnography in Bulgaria. She identified the necklace as Pomak (Bulgarian Muslim), from the Krumovgrad region (Eastern Rhodopes, Kardzhali province, southern Bulgaria). With kind regards, JM.

My Bulgarian correspondent sent me a picture of women in traditional festive costumes from the Krumovgrad region, featuring the beadwork necklaces. Recent production do not have coins anymore, obviously. Kind greetings, JM.
