My great grand mothers birth gift Sølje(1882)

Sølje, the traditional brooch worn on the Norwegian folk costume, Bunad, contains features that can be traced back to brooches from the Iron Age.This Sølje was a birth gift to my great grand mother, born in 1882, and was most likely handed down to her from female relatives. Many Norwegian families have Sølje brooches that have been handed from mother to daughter for several generations.

  • I just realized I have taken this picture with the bowls upside down. They are suppose to have the concave side out.
