I have never seen these either, they look old, do they come under the term millefiori or the sevron beads? And....are they from your previous collections or are you still continueing finding these rare treasures? Gr. Ingrid, glad you are still going strong because I do think you are also rather close to Ethiopian collections and there are not so many .

The watermelon chevron beads are generally 4 layered, and come in a few different colours sometimes tabular ones are found too.. The addition of the murrines makes this strand quite wonderful and scarce in comparison to the plainer versions. The beads are around 100 years old .
Thank you Sarah,to where were they mostly exported to? Ethiopia p.e. has mostly the art'deco glass beads especially the red and orange ones. Older the black/white eye beads . feather beads , round mille fiorimand of course the blue padre beads and the blue Amsterdam beads. Ethiopia was very keen on the red and blue colors and white. Like green is almost not seen in Ethiopia.
So I am very curious were Kathleen did find these treasures. Lovely to get history going in this way.
I like the name watermelon chevron, that is what they really look like, water melons.
