  •  Dear Peter.Different from the standard European wooden boxes. Is it lined inside? And does it have separate compartments? Gr. Ingrid.

  • Dear Ingrid; Many thanks for your message. No, it is not line and it does not have any compartments. It is just bare copper. It also does not look as it would have had anything added to it before but then I could be mistaken... With kind regards. Peter

  • Dear Peter, you know my first impression fro sure an Ottoman piece.  Could also be a money box?  But than if you think of the very large pieces of their jewellery there would be no need for dividers, it does give a male impression to me and of course theirs were enormous chains of belt.

Just a romantic thought. GR. Ingrid.

  • Dear Ingrid; Many thanks for your message. I would rather say that it is a jewelry box. However, I believe that it comes from a rural environment and certainly not from the city. They had many small things, such as the needles to hold the head gears, chains, etc.. I will post a few of these items tomorrow. But then again, one never really knows for sure... With kind regards. Peter

  • Dear Ingrid; By the way, the big Bulgarian belts are all worn by women and not by men. The men either wear very wide leather or fabric belts but no belts with big buckles - these are reserved for ladies... (at least as per the book about the various Bulgarian costumes that I am holding in my hands...). With kind regards. Peter

  • Dear Peter, thank you for all your thoughts and info.  I had forgotten, and Yes I do remember some of your photos with ladies wearing these heavy belts.  Gr. Ingrid.
