  • This is a nice Moroccan dagger.

These are often labelled as from Essaouira, but they were actually a speciality of arab smiths from the former nomadic saharan tribes of Oulad chennan/ Ait el khabous / oulad ben sbaa who live midway in between Marrakkech and Essaouira...they were the only one whose smithing skills would rival that of the jewish masters but they had obviously choosen and specialised in weaponry and one of the latest smithing guild chief in Essaouira was from this tribe and literally every dagger had to pass through its hands to be approved before it was put in the market!

I am afraid i am not able to fully decipher what is written something like " Neither you...harm"  or " ..harming you.."

is there any text on the oher side of the scabbard?

  • Interesting piece, but Alaa can you please show the whole item? Gr. Ingrid

  • The only text is on the backside see Foto for Ingrid is fronts idea.
If I remember well it expressed the pride of the Smith but do not remember the exact words. For me example of high skill.

  • Rolf, I am also curious to the whole shape of the dagger's hilt.

  • Great workmanship - reminds me of likewise elaborately decorated Caucasian daggers.
