Filigree fish Necklace

One row of fishes are missing on the left side. However, the workmanship/filigree is really nice and one of the nicer worked fish necklaces I have seen so far. It is very large - well over 20cm long - but rather light.

  • Dear Akkie; Many thanks for your message. I understand that this is also from Palestine. I have seen a similar piece in a Palestinian family home. The fish are fastened on a Palestinian choker. Fish usually represent fertility. However, I will ask a friend of mine. He surely knows more about it. With kind regards. Peter

  • very nice and rare piece. the fish is fertility and good luck symbol in the nediteraneans coltures, the origine is more phoenician but kept in the ethnic adornement and architectural areas until now, specialy in tunisia,lybia,egypt,jordanian,palestina until syria

  • Hello beautiful fishing! I give you information on the fish symbol in Tunisia in the old houses are ceramic and developed over the door to protect from the evil eye.
    We hide in the clothes of babies, a fish to protect them

  • Beautiful work. Fish and Crescent are common motifs and people think of them for good luck and against jealousy. They are common in Libya as well but not in this type of necklaces. Very nice piece congratulations for having that in your collection.
