Extremely old gold moroccan ring

These were called "khatem ttayr" or bird ring. Worn almost exclusively by jewish ladies. High karat gold set with emeralds et one ruby...two stones are missing Thought to be at least 19th century

  • Very unusual and lovely. Would the bird represent a phoenix? Do they come into Moroccan culture at all, Ayis? I can see animism might include them but I`m not sure how they would appear in Judaism.

    As for birds representations . it was a common jewish habit on jewels in Morocco : interpreted as a peacock when used as a pendant. an eagle or a dove on khamsas and belt buckles....

    The spread tail here indicates a peacock maybe

  • Yess indeed Jose. Those necklaces ate citadinz gold.piece extremely rate and only about ten copies remain mostly in.museums....when a piece reaches a public sale it reaches tens of thousands of euros!!
