  • Never seen menuki used like this. Judging by the wood (pawlonia?) one wood say the box it self it is alsomade in Japan. 

  • I think it is made for the Europian market round 1900, and you are right the wood is unknown here. Possible Japanese.  I never saw a box like this on before.

     I bought it in Haarlem in a bric a brac shop (uitdragerij) 15 years ago.

  • In Haarlem of all places, how nice. A lucky find. Now it will be hard to find something nice in a "uitdragerij"!
