  • Ayis, Thank you for the photos.  Where would the anthropomorphic pendants have been on this piece?  Where the three long nielloed dangles are now?  Also, do you know anything about why this style is so different?

    this very headdress was obviously reorganised to enable its owner to wear it as a necklace

    the anthropormorphic pendants were probably hanging at the very place the long nielloed pendants are now, with the latters hanging between them as spacer

     

    i noticed that  the little round enameled pendants at both edges were also supporting the same other enameled spear shaped pendants but were removed as not to interfere with the comfort of the lady

     

    this headresse belongs to the large family of headresses originating from around central anti atlas, it has been called by french researchers "Style foisonnant" or "Abounding style"

     

    usually they consist of a flat braided silver chain supporting nielloed and enameled pendants with  anthropomorphic design

     

    this one here is quite compact and rather dense
