  • Fantastic! I love these old Harrar baskets. Sooooo beautiful.

  • I fully agree Betty, especially the bottom parts are stunning. This  larger sweet basket is a real stunner. Look at the very intriqued pattern. Thank Betty.

  • Agree with Betty, wonderful work, wonderful design and colours. The bottom of the one on top reminds me a Little of a round Tuareg box I have from Timbuktu, only this one is braided  and my box is leather (drawing on leather).  nice, nice!!!!!

  • Thank you Eva, I know which one you mean, I do have one small and one large given to me by a friend of lived in Burki Nafasso, beautiful embossed leather over wood, but mine are from about 15 yrs. ago. They decorate my bedroom.

  • 2506006235?profile=original2506006456?profile=originalIt is really different, it just reminded me.........the top is the bottom of a box which is more like a bag on top, and the bottom is a top of a box, both are Tuareg from Timbuktu, collected there.

The beadwork in yours seems very refined and Special. The Tuareg boxes are painted on leather.

  • The leather boxes I have are more for  export I think.. and they are dark brown (leather color. Still very beautiful.

I do like the ones you display here especially the bottom one, perfectly done and so strong of design.. is the leather fixed onto wood? or is it like the shields they make in Ethiopia layer over layer of leather?

  • 2506006333?profile=originalNo, it is fixed on Wood, and this one, has something like a basket inside. I Show you a Picture how it Looks from the side. They Keep Food inside as it stays cool.

  • All lovely items, both basketry and leather. Such skilled and painstaking work! I`m quite jealous. (That`s just meant as a compliment).
