wow very interesting. I just saw a pair of bath shoes as Turkish with this same kind of silver filigree work. I would never have known where this was from.. Nice to see this material..
This is amazing, Jose. Love the articulated khamsas... And the decoration on the top of the top of each khamsa ... is that a crescent moon? I see it's repeated on a number of the parts in the centre of the necklace.
Splendid and so rare to find whole.......
NIce one, are you sure this one does not bear Tripoli hallmarks? look on the back of the khamsas and the chili shaped pendants for the "shield"
Very interesting, also found in Egypt and the Horn of Africa.
beautiful!
Jose. as usual. a nice piece and the silver is complet. as patti wrote, also to fin in egypt until the horn of africa. some tuareg tribes have them too
Thank you all for your comments. I will check if there is any mark on it that may confirm where it comes from. I was told it comes from Djerba but I understand that this ort of arrangement can be found in some other places in Tunisia, Libya and further east. I have also read that the ladies used to get the components from Alexandria in Egypt. @Waqar and Thelma - They are not fishes but from the spikes of barley from which its name comes. The decoration combines khamsas and half crescent moons as Thelma pointed out rightly.
Very nice, Jose!
Not only are the individual pieces very nice, but they are also well placed in the overall composition. It is very good to see this posted.
