Gorgeous bracelets, Peter. I love the one with the seven 'fingers'. And a splendid beaded head cover. Congratulations on finding these pieces. I think you must have visited the souk again!
Dear Peter, great pieces. For me the first time to see such a high dome bracelet. Very interesting. The cuff could also be found in Ethiopia, but always is such a small wrist size. Very interesting also the bead embroidered item. Just imagine how many necklaces these could also have been. A find worhty of you again. GR. Ingrid.
Dear Thelma and Ingrid; Many thanks for your comments. This 7-finger cuff is very rare to find. I believe that I have seen one as well in Riyadh during one of my earlier trips and still remember the shop. It would be good to give this beauty a sister... I found these pieces in a shop in Al Khobar, the only one so far, which has good quality items. He told me that he will soon get some deliveries... No, Thelma, tomorrow is my monthly visit to the Riyadh Souk!!! I am still thinking of this gorgeous but expensive Rashaida head cover... With kind regards. Peter
They are both gorgeous - as is the Rashaida cloth ... still looking for one myself :-)
Some time ago I also found a 7-finger bracelet. I was told it is from Naijd. I almost sold it at one point, but somehow thought it was "too special" to give away - thanks for confirming that it is :)
Good luck in the souk today! Please show us your finds ... Kind regards, betty
Splendid. Your collection Peter must be unique...
Dear Betty and Chantal; Many thanks for your comments. I was the other day at the Souk Al Zal in Riyadh. The sellers, whose shops I usually frequent, were waiting for me... One came running to me and mentioned that he has gotten some antique Rashaida fabrics! I bought 2 gorgeous real antique Rashaida head covers, one of which is for a child and very special. At the other shop, the seller brought another box from the back store (I believe that this gentleman has many more boxes at the back!!!) and I got some very nice and special Saudi jewelry from him. I am currently cleaning my loot and will post them shortly... With kind regards. Peter
Thanks for the story Peter. A book of your unique collection with the details of how/where you acquired your little treasures would be a delight......Have you ever thought of doing this one day? There are a few books of nice collections but none with little details like the ones you just gave us! many thanks.
Dear Chantal, Many thanks for your message. Yes, I have started with exactly such a project. However, this is quite an undertaking and will take time... With kind regards. Peter
Very glad this is happening. Good luck. Yes, I appreciate that it must be quite daunting. (considering the number of fabulous pieces that you own) . Let us know when the final result can be purchased.
