These knives are worn by young initiates. They remove the leather edge guard then spar and fight with the bracelets and ring knives. They do cut each other in their endeavors to show their strength and power!
From memory I think the ceremony is described in Angela Fischer and Carol Beckworth's book Africa Adorned

Thank you, My jewellery collection is very diverse with items from around the world. I have uploaded a little to ethnic jewels and will upload more as time permits. Time is limited because our Gallery is open every day and jewellery is only half of the business. We also sell a wonderful variety of African art from more than 30 African countries and African and Asian textiles.

Thank you Eva, One of my dreams is to have images of everything I buy on Flickr. I shop faster than I buy and have big problems keeping up with the load. Not to worry there is always a lot to see. enjoy.

Is this collection of yours on Flick a collection for selling or a collection for showing you items?

This because you write about your gallery and since not being English I wonder does gallery mean the same as in my country: shop.

My business is a shop for looking and selling. Most pieces have price in Australian $ on the first picture in the set with the description of the item. If you would like information about pieces just email me with the number on each picture.
Sometimes I have not added the price but just let me know and I will update it.
