Leather-Stripes with Silver-Rings

I bought this one many years ago in the south of Morocco. Maybe it is rather rare, because the first time I saw a similar one again, after more than 40 years, was on a photo from Sarah Corbett. Someone told me that it was used to adorne the head of horses? But the silver- rings and the coins are real silver, I tested it. Does anyone know more about the item?

  • that is correct, similar pieces are used to adorn horses on their heads, on each side.  Sometimes Fulani People use similar items to decorate themselves  (men, at the Gerewol Festival), but the Fulani ones are usually more colourful. So I would Support the opinion that they were used for horses (decoration on their heads).

  •  Dear Eva, Imagine, now that you are in photography what a wonderful pictures you could make at a festival like that.? Gr. Ingrid.

  • Hi Paul, beautiful item.  How charming the horses would look decorated with this leather and silver item.  I love the way the rings have been attached within the braiding of the leather.  GR. Ingrid.

  • This is a gorgeous decoration Paul. I love the leather - beautiful worn item. Peter

  • I really love this piece.  It must feel wonderful, the soft leather against the smooth silver.

  • Dear Sarah saw your additional foto of the berber woman who wear this piece of jewelry and one more.

So no horse halter but pectoral for personal jewelry.  These kind of proofs if they are original are of good proof to get history correct. Thank you for  this fact . Warm greeting Ingrid.
