  • Thanks Eva and Alaa. The bead is flat on the base and the top is rounded. This picture shows the bead on its side, so the top is to the right and the base to the left... It's missing three garnet stones on the back of the bead. It also has a lovely weight to it.
  • Ah, this is an old one. You do not see many garnets used in Yemeni jewelry. I only know them from the old bracelets from before the time the Jew silversmith's  left.

  • I am trying to figure out how old, hard to say the most  Jews left Yemen 1949-1950  for Israel (operation Magic Carpet). So that was the end of their famous silversmithing. So I guess this bead is from before that period.
