  Hello Becky! Such a nice necklace...In fact when I have been in Yemen I have bought several pieces very similar to this central one...but they were small purses ( this information I have received there)...I am going to take some photos so everybody can see them...I have 4!

  Isabel, - You are quite right: the piece at the bottom here, which Becky is displaying as the piece de resistance of her necklace is a well-made "stash box" from Yemen. You will both find a very similar piece, and a description of it, by going to Facebook, where I posted that a while ago. Nothing to lose, and plenty of good jewellery - with full captions - to see.   Looking again I am not 100% certain that the two objects are similar enough, but the resemblance remains quite striking. In any case the object comes from Yemen in both instances - no doubt at all, and each box (if the one that's part of the pendant IS a box) is typical of the culture and very well made.

  Is it really a box? I can't see hinges on the top.. The shape is that of a Siwa: ornamental flap (belt tap) of a man's belt. To see on page 20 of Silver Speaks. traditional jewelry of the Middle east . by Joyce Diamanti. And on page 131 of Jewellery of the Orient. by Wolf -Dieter Seiwert. Belt purches have a round bottom side shape.  I like the fine silverwork, Becky!

  It is correct that the pouches have hinges and round bottoms, I have an example under the search terms of yemeni selections which illustrates the structure. Beautiful pic here love the detail.

  Yes,the 4 purses I have all show round bottoms...as soon as I can I will show their photos!!
