  • Wow

  • Lovely - a great piece!

  • Marvelous piece ! Also all other photos give a wonderful image of this culture. Thanks for sharing.
  • Amazing piece!

  • Do you have this, or is this from a museum? It is very beautiful. Never seen one privately..

  • I have a question which I should have asked before. I must confess that I don't know just how this would have been worn. I should much like to learn!

  • It is worn at the nape of neck like a brooch and all the tassels hang down.. Been looking for one of these for about 20 years!  I have a whole portfolio of all the ones that are in the museums in Russia. They are quite fabulous.

  • Ah, that is helpful, Linda. I did think that that was about the only possible way, but felt unsure even so. It is a beautiful and most desirable piece, and like you I'd love to own it! Just one further question: does it have a pin at the back, like a brooch, on the top piece? That is what you seem to be suggesting, but I just wish, once again, to make quite sure.

  • I assume it must have a button or pin.. I have never seen one in person or handled one. I have only seen them in Russian museums.  I have seen them on costumes and worn also but never seen the attachment.

  • That's a scrupulously honest and at the same time helpful comment, Linda. I cannot personally recall seeing an illustration of this, but I haven't as much material to draw on as you, and your having seen the piece in illustrations of costumes at least makes very clear that it was worn in the way you say, i.e. from the nape of the neck down. I agree that a button or pin would have been the most likely fasteners, for if it had been some form of chain round the neck we (a) would surely be able to see places where that would have been attached, and (b) would have faced the oddity of something being capable of moving while it really should, even for symmetry's sake, stay in a firm position. Actually Tugce might be able to offer comment? What a glorious piece, in any case ...
