nice pieces. lovely. they are not touareg more fulani songhai too. any way Mali.
nice purshassing
Whenever I have seen this form in Morocco I have been told they are from Niger or Mali and worn by the Fulani...
a ring on page 174 of Africa Adorned also attributes a ring of similar twisted costruct to the Fulani of Niger.
I am not able to verify this, but thought the details may be of use to you.
Sx
Beautiful shapes, like sculptures.
I will ask my husband this evening, if they are Sonrai, or from Gao or Timbuktu, he will know.
I am not aware of a word 'Icherrifen' may it be Cherifien?
http://en.bab.la/dictionary/french-english/ch%C3%A9rifien
Thanx everyone for you kind help.
@Sarah, Spot on, the rwo words do have the same root which refers to a possible linkage to the prophet of Islam "Muhammad"
Sarah. cherifien is arabic, icherrifen is berber in plural. all the words starting with i and ends with en are plural. Ithebalen, izgaren, iouadien......
ok, I asked my husband, he said it is Bella and Peul (Fulani), not Tuareg. Mostly it is made of Aluminium, then the women rub the bangle and a black matter is formed, with which they colour their lips! Sometimes they also wear it as bangles (hand), but mainly on their anklets.
Thanx eva and tha xto you husband. Helpful information
Have nothing to add, ayis, to what has already been said, and would have to do a lot of work if I were to try and find out more! Above all, I think they are beautiful - really very nice. Thanks for posting.
