  • This is interesting because there is an impression of molded coins.  I have seen tepeliks made of real coins, layered, with an ornament in the center.  I think this is meant to echo that shape. 

  • Dear Lynn; Many thanks for your message - much apprecaited. Yes, the pattern gives the impression of molded coins and most probably that is what the maker wanted to. The book of the Bir Collection is featuring a similar tepelik as this one. I have a red felt hat full of Irani and Ottoman coins in the same arrangement but covering the entire hat. With kind regards. Peter
