  • This is interesting to me because it looks like a marriage of two pieces -- the coral and shell from a Tadjik or Afghan wedding necklace and the pendant from Africa.
  • I bought this as it appears, and the stringing style does appear to be much newer. Thanks for your comments.
  • Hi Patricia (from Palm Beads,) hope you are enjoying your ring(s) I agree with you on the Tadjik connection we've got one of these "Tajik Wedding Neckalces" on our site (the antique coral is delicious)but this one has a different centrepiece. I think it's probably Indian or Pakistani depending on its age, I guess they met by the Khyber Pass, married there and have been together ever since.
But it wouldn't be that unlikely for the pendant to have taken a trip tio Africa in its youth finding its way back with a monsoon trader.
We've had Pakistani Pashtun pendants that Abdul found near the Khyber Pass and identical ones brought back from Ethiopia. So the ancient trade routes folowing the North Indian Ocean "Trade Winds" are still happening outside our limited world.
By the way I love the pieces you've got on here.
And Kathleen I think our ones are written up on palmbeads.com.au if you want to read about them.
Yours is old red coral, black glass and camel bone discs with lovely old silver alloy beads all traditional. And worth quite a bit, too.
    Cheers Cam.
  • Hi, Nice to hear from you, I go to your site and browse around ( maybe I will do that now, as I am at work and bored) I absolutely love that ring! The old bead is so lovely.
  • Hi Patricia and Cam, Thank you both for your questions and comments. This is a beautiful piece indeed.
  • I love this.
