  • very nice and interesting.. do you wear it also?

  • Carry,  this is a bracelet from Timor. It is cast from big Dutch silver coins (name : rijksdaalder) . In the "bell" there is usually a tiny stone that make a rattling sound. Name of the bracelets is buku niti.

  • Leuk om de details nou te weten, thanks

  • Timor, yes. The tinkling is meant to be charming. Rijksdaalders are indeed big coins, now no longer used (I believe), but still current when I was a kid. My surname, "Daalder", is that of the traditional coin in the Netherlands which was worth 1.5 guilders (long since defunct), and linguistically the word "daalder" is cognate with German "thaler" and English "dollar". The rijksdaalder, when that was introduced, was worth 2.5 guilders.

  • At least they made something nice out of it!! I still have some too from when I was young!!

  • A rare piece of ethnic jewel from Sulawesi an Island in Indonesia worn during a dance!
The knob is made from,a silver Dutch rijksdaalder and During the dance I sounds like a bell!!
  • Thanks you Harald of giving my bracelet a name Buku nit I can you translate this for me???
  • I am sorry Carry I can not. I saw the name in a book on jewelry but there was no explanation about the meaning of this name.
