Wonderful bracelets, Ann. What materail is the cabouchon made of?. The one at the bottom seems more Yemeni to me though.
Hi Ann, yes I agree with Jose, bottom one is from Yemen, do you mean measurements are 4,5 x 5 cm?? so for small wrist, will not fit me.......both are lovely however!
Thanks Jose, maybe it is Yemeni.......any ideas of what the cabouchon is made of?
Hi Ann,
Am veyr interested in your posting. Am going to Sri lanka in a few months and I was wondering why we see so few ethnic jewels from there on the blog.....and your posting arrived..........but, is it really Sri Lanka or Yemeni as is suggested? Can I ask you, where did you get them? I'd love to see genuine Sri lankan jewelry to see what it looks like.......
I agree, Chantal. I have always wondered why we see so litte, if anything at all!, Sri Lankan ethnic jewellery. Even if it is very much influenced by Indian one and particularly that of the Tamiol southern state I am sure that it will certainly it will have distintive features of its own. Well, Chantal, you have got a tough assignment, go there and ..... tell us all!!!.
Ann, I am almost one hundred per cent that the bottom bracelet is a nice Yemeni one. The oen on top seems to be a totally different one and I guess it may will certainly by Sri Lankan. As to the cabouchon I am not an expert at all. At first I though of a very light and transparent piece of ambar, then of some sort of agata but I am afraid that are just impressions and cannot tell.
i m not sure if it is sri lanka or yemeni. if the cabochon is original and natural baltic amber, then yemeni. if the cobocho is safire, topas or some corunder ( what is a lot in sri lanka) then i think sri lanka
chantal. dont forget to buy saris in sri lanka, they have beautiful ones
@Ait, whatever for ? (although I dont doubt that they are very beautiful).Only White T-shirts and jeans me.....
@Jose, I will fail the assignment........I couldnt to save my life differentiate between Asian, Indian, Afghan, Pakistani, Thai jewelry..........How would I spot the typical Sri Lankan one? I thought I had a starting point with Ann's bracelets until someone started mentioning Yemen!.........I dont know what I should be looking for........Maybe I will have to start looking at Sri lankan jewelry on Ebay first!
http://www.silkroad1.com/items/296466/item296466store.html Here is a pic of a sold Sri Lanka bracelet from Trocadero. Looks much like Ann's top bracelet with a different stone.
Thanks Patti, this is a good start. Looks definitely like Ann's.
