  • So graceful. Is it quite light? I've seen these circles on ivory bracelets worn by the Dinka. But did they work in bronze?

  • Hi Angelo and @Thelma. This is a beautiful piece of bronze (copper) neckring or bracelet.  I think it is a mixture of two regions.  If original from Arussi/Negelle, it ought to be in brass (mixture, copper and nickel.  The etging is very much Arussi, the eyes and the diamond.  Now if Jinka,  Mursi or Nuer their bracelets or neckbands are in aluminium or copper.  These people dwell around the Baro and Omo river . They move around the border of Ethiopia,Sudan and Kenya, So the south/west part of Ethiopia .

They also wear lots of small garments made of beads, men as well as women.  Also the people were the young men have to make a run across the backs of many cows Jinka, The people  Mursi and Nuer where the women wear the clay lip plates (to make tham less atractive for neighboring young men (bride kidnapping).  So in short a beautiful condition marriage between the copper wearers from South west Ethiopia and  the brass wearers of Arussi/Negelle. Gr. Ingrid.

  • Hi Ingrid, thanks for this comment/information, which is very interesting and useful!

  • Ingrid interesting read, especially about the use of the different metals.  I had someone just other day, as me to identify a very similar collar, but in what looked like a brass alloy. Angelo, here are three cross reference pieces, that I had already put together.  If you want the urls to the individual pieces just let me know.2506038602?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • Hi Zambezi. Very good cross ref.  The bronze neck ring is exactly a twin to Angelo's beautiful. When calling upon the name Oromo people, it does not tell you from where.  Because Oromo's are living all over Ethiopia. But they all have their own characteristics, habits and fashion. Like the brass bracelet is perhaps collected in Ado but has traveled there. But is the characteristic of the region Arussi/Negelle. And the use of copper is more South west of Ethiopia.
