  • nice ! Are the dangles symbolizing leaves or bells? Do you know`?

  • Unfortunately I know nothing about the symbolism of the bells or leaves or tuIips or whatever the dangles might represent.

    I actually had a hard time finding out where the brooch came from - the seller only remembered that her husband must have bought it in Scandinavia. However, Norwegian solje pins are  quite different, even though they serve the same purpose: to keep together a woman's shirt in the absence of buttons Eventually I came across some pictures showing the same and similar pins from Latvia.

    Usially I don't collect European ethnic jewellery (though it is a fascinating and under-researched subject). I just loved the simple elegance of this piece and the organic shapes.

  • thanks Betty. Like me, I do not usually collect European Ethnical jewellery, but there might be some exceptions...........like the North American Native pieces too
