Roof Crest Ornament

This carved wooden ornament was used to decorate the ridge of a traditional Sumatran building. It is only partial and originally had another piece (possibly a figure of a person, tree or animal) on top. The black and red paint has faded. The boat motif also shows up in textiles and jewelry. I like the way the boat also looks like waves and foliage.
