Philippines Maranao bracelet

This is an old gilt copper bracelet from the Philippines island of Mindanao. The Maranao people are Muslim and have a unique style of adornment not found elsewhere on the Philippines. This is a typical Maranao bracelet with a floral repousse design, and a large filigreed plaque with a green stone which cover the closure. This bracelet is tiny and a Facebook poster from the Philippines reported that even the Maranao women had to put it on with a silk cloth over the hand. More photos in the comments.

  • Thanks for posting it here as well as on Facebook, and the photos as well as the piece itself are splendid.

  • A long time favourite of mine. Happy you got to source one.
