Perfume Amulets Morocco

Part of a growing collection of silver, etched, perfume amulets. They would be filled with a perfume soaked wadding of wool. The largest hails from Ait Bahai in the Anti Atlas. These would normally be hanging on fibulas necklaces (sometimes only one pendant) and would bear scented wool. They were also worn as temple headdresses.Usually they were abundant in the area from Essaouira in the north to the Sous valley in the south (Taroudant)Larger one has flip open base, others have jump rings for dangles (missing). Sourced Tarandout, Marrakech, Essaouria. Thanks to all for info!

  • Hi Sue, these are perfume amulets rather than water sprinklers. They would be filled with a perfume soaked wadding of wool...

The largest hails from Ait Bahai in the Anti Atlas.

    Warm Wishes

  • They may be used as temple pieces in a headdress.
