Hi Frankie
this is a really rare and bautiful necklace. You should if you can , try and take another photo of it laid out in whole and in light.. would love to see it. Not many from this region.. Only had one in my whole career. Very rare items!
I will if I can, Linda. My camera is very limited in what it will do and doesn`t like the distance needed for a whole necklace shot. Trouble is, every time I get enough funds for a new camera, I "need" to buy another piece of "essential" ethnic jewellery!!!
Silver beads look fabulous Frankie.
Hi sounds funny but true how that happens when one collects.. Just think that coupled with trying to do it as a business.. Nothing ever works in my house!
@ linda
LOL, same here, jewels get the lion's share and prime affectation
Lovely necklace Frankie! Yup, Sri Lankan and a fantastic find!
There don't seem to be very many reference books for Sri Lankan jewellery, possibly because Sri Lankan Tamil jewellery was/is similar to Indian Tamil jewellery and they're usually just described as south Indian or Tamil jewellery. I'm considering purchasing a book of Sri Lankan costumes, which may provide more information on Sinhalese jewellery, but my wish list of books is miles long and who knows when I'll get to this.
I'll keep you posted on anything new I find of course, and would love to hear about your discoveries too.
