These two pieces show considerable wear and look very old to me.

  • For the typology, i.e. identification of the different types, I'd consult Susan Rodgers, *Power and Gold*.

  • Joost...... I have had POWER & GOLD since it came out but I have sort of lost interest in it all. This web site interested me because you were here. I bought your book and have been enjoying it. There are lots of nice people here and they all have nice things to show. I could look up the probable identifications but i am betting most folks here know what the pieces are. The pierced brass piece is probably from the Molocus Islands and the one with chicken heads is likely from Sumba IMHO.

  • James: thank you for your nice comments, and of course for buying the book! But it is a pity you have lost "interest in it all" when it comes to identifying Indonesian jewellery. We have quite a lot of it, but we must again and again consult books, as we don't remember all the differences and distinct futures. Hence I cannot immediately "pick" with each piece what you are showing me. And as for other people: I think there are some very, very learned people on this site, but I don't think many of them collect Indonesian jewellery - I say this tentatively, as I may overlook people who do, in which case I apologise to them. I do enjoy seeing your pieces, and I hope others to too. But ... I'd encourage you to provide descriptions of your pieces: it makes it all more interesting to people. Do it in some such way as Truus does it in our book, if you can  (though you don't need to be as detailed!). I seem to recall that you did at one stage announce on Facebook that you were going to buy the book, is that right? And you obviously did. Here, in a different context, I did not at once remember you!!

  • Sorry for typos James and others - I must really be off to bed, and have stayed up for far too long!! Apologies!!
