Old Brass Belt Fitting ?

The lions look very similar to Persian coins but does anyone recognize this piece?But could just as easily be Central Asian.I'm assuming it fits on a belt to attach personal items, rather like a "chatelaine" but it may be worn as jewellery.We found it in Afghanistan, but whence it originally came I can't say.
