This cut-out work on silver jewelry was only produced in Zaidiyya at Yemen's coast.This necklace is very large and quite heavy.

  • This wonderful piece's sight is making my heart bleed ... I narrowly lost an auction for one those wonderful capsules.
    The smaller beads are very similar to the designs worn in Ethiopia and Somalia. I think it was/is also in Zaidiyya were they made/make the wonderful large globes that people in the Horn used to wear as large "spacers" in those impressive strands of amber beads which are extremely rare finds these days.

  • Oh Betty, I know that feeling well.  I can tell when I unwisely pass on a really good piece, because the regret deepens with time instead of relieves.  Whereas with a common piece, I see it again and perhaps at an equivalent or better price, and so the disappointment fades.
